Conservation Fisheries, Inc. is the only private nongame imperiled fish hatchery in the United States. CFI is dedicated to the preservation of aquatic biodiversity through conservation and recovery of rare freshwater fishes and has propagated more than 60 fish species from a dozen southeastern states. These fish have been used to restore lost populations, maintain arks, and conduct conservation research. CFI has restored the Endangered Smoky Madtom to Abrams Creek and Tellico River, ensuring the continued survival of this small East Tennessee catfish that was once considered extinct.

CFI also monitors streams and rare fish (mostly by snorkeling!) and shares results with collaborators such as World Wildlife Fund, The Nature Conservancy, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Forest Service, and Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. Learn more at www.conservationfisheries.org.
